Introducing Nurse Practitioner Lorraine
To mark Nurse Practitioner Week, we introduce our very own NP Lorraine Martin.
Nurse practitioners are highly trained professionals who are endorsed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia to practice at an advanced nursing level.
Lorraine commenced with Catholic Homes in November and is supporting our residential teams, visiting general practitioners and health professionals throughout the organisation.
Nurse practitioners are very well established in aged care and have been shown to increase satisfaction among residents and families.
“Having spent the past 11 years working in a similar role I have seen that a Nurse Practitioner is well placed in a residential aged care setting to provide a comprehensive, holistic level of care to residents who have complex health needs,” she said.
“GPs often have limited time available therefore it is wonderful to join Catholic Homes and to be able to add value to the care of the residents.”
By working closely with GPs, Lorraine is helping ensure positive clinical outcomes, improved communication and consultations and care management for Catholic Homes’ 300-plus residents at its six residences in Perth and Bunbury.
With her appointment, Catholic Homes is also better able to meet increasing reporting and documentation requirements while maintaining compliance with Australia’s Aged Care Quality Standards.
Lorraine has extensive clinical and aged care experience and holds a master’s degree from Edith Cowan University. Learn more about our Care with Purpose approach here.
In 2021, Nurse Practitioners in Australia celebrate 21 years of practice. During Nurse Practitioner Week, 6- 12 December, the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners is promoting Nurse Practitioners and the incredible care and value they add to their patients and clients in health care around the world.
