We’ll make getting started easy for you. Just read through our 7 steps. And if you have questions at any time you can contact us.

1

Contact our team

We know some things you need to do to access Residential Care can be a bit involved, our experienced and helpful team is here to support you and explain the actions and processes needed to allow you to move into the aged care residence of your choice.

2

Are you eligible?

Now to find out about your eligibility. My Aged Care is the Australian Government’s service you need to contact, they’ll help you decide on the right aged care for you.

Call them on 1800 200 422 or go online at myagedcare.gov.au/assessment

You can organise with them for an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) member to come to your home to talk with you about your eligibility. Once you’ve been assessed, you’ll get a letter from My Aged Care to tell you about eligibility, the services you can receive and your support plan.

3

Provide information on your finances

Providing information about your finances to Services Australia (Centrelink) is important, so they can determine your accommodation fees and if there’re subsides available to you.

If you already receive a means tested income support payment from Services Australia or DVA and you don’t own your own home, you don’t need to take this step, an assessment will be done automatically when you move into Residential Care.

4

Understand your fees

The cost of living at an aged care residence consists of two parts - care fees and accommodation fees. The cost of these elements and payment choices depend on your circumstances.

Residential Aged Care FAQs

Residential aged care (also known as nursing homes, aged care hostels or residential aged care facilities) is for older people who are not able to reside safely in their own home and need greater assistance with daily tasks or their health care.

The easiest way to start the process is to register with My Aged Care, Australia’s entryway to government-subsidised aged care services.

You can apply online at myagedcaregov.au or call the contact centre on 1800 200 422. Or call our friendly team on 1300 244 111.

All government-subsidised aged care services are subject to an assessment to determine your eligibility so that the services you choose meet your requirements and provide the kinds of supports you need.

During the initial chat with My Aged Care, they will need some basic information to help determine your eligibility for aged care services.

You’ll need to provide your Medicare details and they will also ask about your circumstances at home, how you are managing and how your health is. You’ll also be asked if you are currently receiving any support, such as home care.

Once your eligibility is confirmed, My Aged Care will arrange to meet with you for a face-to-face assessment.
