Happy hour by the sea

Meet our barman, Ted Gumley!

Every Friday, Ted helps take orders and serve drinks for Happy Hour.

He begins with setting up the glasses on the table and bringing out all the drinks.

He then politely asks people for their order, prepares their drink and personally serves it to them.

This role brings Ted purpose and gives our residents something to look forward to in their day.

Working like this, called a role or a job, encourages individuals to continue to use their skills to remain independent while supporting them to feel needed and valued.

This approach acknowledges people as individuals, who are complex who have different roles in life, and are not simply residents in aged care

“I like to help the staff with jobs around the facility, it makes me feel helpful,” said Ted.
